Driver dies after crash on I-25 near Fountain on Friday

(EL PASO COUNTY, Colo.) — The Colorado State Patrol (CSP) is currently investigating a fatal crash on I-25, near Fountain, which has closed the left lane near the exit for US-85, CanAm Highway.

According to CSP’s Public Information Office, the crash happened minutes before 6:30 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 24. Troopers report that a pick-up truck hauling a small trailer lost control and rolled into the center median, ejecting the driver from the cab while going north on I-25 at milepost 128, which is near the exit for CanAm Hwy. in Fountain.

Public Information Officer, Trooper Hunter Mathews, also confirmed the only occupant of the truck was the driver, an 85-year-old man from Arizona, who was pronounced dead on the scene.

CSP expects the left lane to be opened around 10 a.m. on Friday.
