(PUEBLO, Colo.) — The Pueblo County Sheriff’s Office (PCSO) and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) are partnering for another Drug Take Back Day, in which community members can bring in old, expired, or unused prescription drugs to be disposed of safely.
Sheriff’s deputies will be at three locations in Pueblo County from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 26 accepting drugs anonymously from neighbors. The drugs will be disposed of safely and there is no charge for the service.
National Drug Take Back Day is held twice a year, in April and October, and was started by the DEA to get unused or outdated drugs out of homes so they cannot be misused or abused. Studies show that many abused prescription drugs are obtained from family and friends, including from home medicine cabinets.
Many people don’t know how to properly dispose of unused medicines, often flushing them in the toilet or throwing them away–both potential safety and health hazards.
Deputies will be at the following locations to collect unwanted prescription medications:
Pueblo County Sheriff’s Pueblo West Substation, 320 E. Joe Martinez Blvd.
Pueblo Rural Fire Station, 29912 U.S. Highway 50 E (between Wago Drive and 30th Lane)
Valley Health Mart Pharmacy, 4493 Bent Brothers Blvd., Colorado City
