The facility, known as the Manufacturing Center of Excellence, will produce front-opening unified pods (FOUPs), which are essential for semiconductor chip production. This marks the return of FOUP manufacturing to the United States after decades abroad.

“We don’t look at this site as just building a facility. We look at this site as building the future,” said David Reeder, CEO of Entegris. “And we also look at this site as building some more steps in terms of bringing production back to the United States for something that’s critical to all of our lives.”

Semiconductor facility to bring 600 jobs to the Springs

The new 135,000 square-foot facility increases Entegris’ production capabilities and supports the local workforce by collaborating with schools and hiring veterans and military families. Entegris plans to fill 50% of its workforce with veterans, leveraging their leadership and problem-solving skills.

Entegris is partnering with organizations like Hiring Our Heroes and Mt. Carmel Veterans Service Center to achieve its workforce goals. The company has 8,000 employees worldwide and benefits from up to $100 million in local and U.S. government incentives.

Reeder highlighted the significance of the facility, noting that FOUPs were originally invented in Colorado Springs and are now being produced domestically again.

“So you have a product that was invented here that then was migrated and moved overseas for production,” Reeder said. “And now, more than a decade later, coming back home to where it was originally invented… we couldn’t be happier to be here in Colorado Springs.”

The opening of Entegris’ facility in Colorado Springs is a success story for the semiconductor industry and the local economy, promising to bolster the domestic supply chain and create valuable job opportunities.
