EPSO: Alleged intruder arrested after fight with armed homeowner

(EL PASO COUNTY, Colo.) — A suspected intruder is in custody after a fight with an armed homeowner in unincorporated El Paso County.

Just after 5:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 13, the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office (EPSO) said it received a 911 call from an elderly person in the Stratmoor Valley Mobile Home Park on Wooddale Road, who said there was an intruder inside their home.

According to EPSO, when the homeowner asked the suspect to leave, he refused, and a fight ensued in which the homeowner stabbed the suspect. After being stabbed, the alleged intruder ran from the home, damaging fences while running through two neighboring yards, before collapsing in a third backyard, where deputies found him and identified him as 37-year-old, previously convicted felon, Gareth Webb.

Webb was taken to a hospital to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries and will be booked into the El Paso County Jail upon medical clearance on the charges of First-Degree Trespassing, Second-Degree Burglary, Second-Degree Criminal Trespassing, Harassment, and Criminal Mischief.

“Prolific, violent offenders like Webb put innocent community members at risk, and we will continue to pursue every legal avenue to keep them behind bars where they cannot harm others. I want to commend my deputies for their rapid response in containing the suspect, and I also want to recognize the homeowner for their quick thinking and courage in a frightening situation,” said El Paso County Sheriff Joe Roybal.
