(EL PASO COUNTY, Colo.) — A man was arrested and released on bond after allegedly threatening a person with a gun, forcing them out of their car, and demanding their keys at a home north of Ellicott.
According to the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office (EPSO), deputies responded shortly before 4 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 24 to a report of an armed robbery in progress at a home in the 22000 block of Jones Road, north of Ellicott. The 911 caller reported that a man they were familiar with had pointed a gun at them, forced them out of their car, and demanded their keys.
EPSO said the suspect, identified as 56-year-old James Hughes, remained on scene and threatened to shoot the victim if they tried to leave.
When deputies arrived, they set up a perimeter and used a drone to locate Hughes. He was seen outside the home, and deputies were able to take him into custody without incident.
EPSO said a search warrant revealed “key evidence” supporting charges for Hughes’ arrest:
Menacing
Possession of a weapon by a previous offender
Harassment
Reckless endangerment
Hughes was released on Oct. 26 on a $2,000 bond.
