EPSO: Man arrested on felony warrants during traffic stop

(EL PASO COUNTY, Colo.) — The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office (EPSO) conducted a targeted enforcement operation south of the Colorado Springs Airport on Sunday, Sept. 7, in an area where criminal activity and narcotics distribution had been reported.

According to EPSO, around 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, patrol deputies conducted surveillance in the 5400 block of Almont Avenue, near Bradley Road and Grinnell Boulevard, and when they saw a gold Honda Pilot driving away from a home, they conducted a traffic stop.

EPSO reported that drug paraphernalia was in plain sight in the vehicle. The people in the car were identified as 31-year-old Matthias Black, 54-year-old Brian Marinez, and an unidentified woman.

Martinez was arrested on two outstanding felony warrants for Vehicular Eluding and Domestic Violence-Stalking. EPSO stated that he was also charged with Obstruction after providing a false name to the deputies. He is currently being held at the El Paso County Jail without bond.

Black was cited and released for Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. The woman was not charged.
