Victim identified from fatal Aug. 24 crash on Platte

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — The Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) has confirmed the identity of a fatal crash on Platte Avenue on Aug. 24.

CSPD reported that they originally got a call about the crash in the 2300 Block of Platte Avenue, near the intersection of Platte Ave. and North Union Boulevard, around 2:00 a.m.

The initial report said a car was driving eastward down Platte Ave. when it “left the south side of the roadway and struck a tree.” Arriving CSPD officers found multiple victims in the car, including a woman who was pronounced dead on the scene and two additional victims who needed hospital care for serious bodily injuries.

The woman has now been identified by the El Paso County Coroner’s Office as 22-year-old Jessenya Gaytan.

The initial investigation by the CSPD Major Crash Team also found that alcohol did appear to be a contributing factor to the crash. This is the 38th traffic fatality in Colorado Springs this year.
