(SOUTHERN COLORADO) — Another month wraps up as we head further into 2025. February was a month that featured longer stretches of ups and downs for temperatures and overall below average precipitation.
For Colorado Springs, a vast majority of the days reported little to no rain at all. The calendar above highlights days in which at least a trace of rainfall was reported. In total, only five days met that criteria. Average precipitation for the month of February usually reaches about a third of an inch and Colorado Springs reported just under that.
In Pueblo, a similar trend was noticed with below-average precipitation totals and just a handful of days reporting moisture. Only four out of 28 days had more than a trace of precipitation, with 0.18 inches being reported in total. This brings the monthly total to just over half of where Pueblo should be for February.
As far as temperatures go, there were a few different ups and downs for the month of February. In general, both Pueblo and Colorado Springs had two stretches of above normal temperatures and one significant stretch of below normal temperatures. Between Feb. 9 and Feb. 21, Colorado Springs had a particularly cold stretch with an Arctic air invasion. Feb. 12 was nearly 40 degrees below normal.
Pueblo had a very similar overall trend. There were a couple of exceptionally warm days at the beginning of February, but there was also a nearly two week stretch of below normal temperatures around Valentine’s Day.
The warmest temperature for the month was 69 degrees in Colorado Springs and 75 degrees in Pueblo. The coldest temperature for the month was -7 degrees in Colorado Springs and -6 degrees in Pueblo. That’s roughly an 80 degree spread for both areas!
Snowfall was relatively light with Colorado Springs reporting a max of 2.3 inches on February 11. Pueblo saw their max snowfall day of 1.4 inches on February 15. For totals, Pueblo reached 3.6 inches of snow for the month while Colorado Springs reported 7.1 inches for February. Overall, February appeared to be rather quiet in terms of precipitation. The bigger story this time around was likely the two week blast of Arctic air that moved in around Valentine’s Day.
Meteorological Spring kicks off on Saturday, March 1. Temperatures from there should average at roughly 50 degrees with a lot more daylight over the course of the month.
