(MANITOU SPRINGS/El PASO COUNTY, Colo.) — The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Flood Watch that includes Manitou Springs and parts of El Paso County.
According to the City of Manitou Springs press release, the watch will remain in effect until 8 p.m. on Thursday, July 17. “The recent rainfall has already saturated the ground, increasing the risk of runoff and localized flooding.”
NWS: Difference between “Flood Warning” and “Flood Watch”
Flood Warning: Flooding is happening or will happen soon. Move to high ground immediately.
Flood Watch: Flooding is possible. Stay tuned for information and be ready to move to higher ground.
The City warned that water could rise quickly in places like Fountain Creek, and the flooding could also impact trails and underpasses.
“The City of Manitou Springs is actively monitoring conditions and will deploy crews as needed to manage storm impacts.” Emergency crews are also on standby, and storm drains are being checked and maintained.
