Four law enforcement agents honored for solving death of 23-month-old

(CONEJOS COUNTY, Colo.) — Four law enforcement agents were honored by the 12th Judicial District Attorney on Thursday, Feb. 20 for their work in solving a child abuse case.

Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) special agent Andrew (AJ) Marceau and Special Agent Courtney Norman along with Conejos County Sheriff’s Office Investigator Laura Amaya and Lieutenant Tony Galvez were honored for their work on solving the death of a 23-month-old child in January 2023.

Through an investigation, Special Agents Marceau and Norman along with Conejos County Deputies Amaya and Galvez helped uncover the truth when the victim’s babysitter, Denise Cordova, claimed the child fell from a stroller. During an investigation, medical professionals determined the injuries were inconsistent with her initial claim, and the Sheriff’s Office and CBI began investigating.

“You guys exceeded our expectations and it made it easier to heal. I know if my daughter were here today she’d give you a big hug. You guys honored her like she was one of your own, “said Dreamishia Guerrero, mother of the deceased child. “There are no words for how grateful my family is. We thank you guys for all your hard work. You are truly amazing.”

On Feb. 2023, Cordova was arrested and on Jan. 15, 2025, she pleaded guilty to Murder in the Second Degree and is scheduled to be sentenced on April 14, 2025.
