Future of Pikes Peak Library District, preliminary report released

(EL PASO COUNTY, Colo.) — A preliminary report for the Pikes Peak Library District’s (PPLD) Facilities Master Plan has been released and includes various recommendations for creating a sustainable future for the Library District.

“The Facilities Master Plan is being conducted to evaluate our current facilities, population density and distribution, community needs, Library budget and expenditures, projected costs, and other Colorado library systems,” according to a statement sent from a library spokesperson to FOX21 News on Tuesday, July 9.

On June 19, the Board of Trustees was informed of the preliminary report, which recommended three action plans, each with different, but possible budget scenarios, based on research and data analysis conducted by a consultant for the Library District.

According to the spokesperson, one of the recommendations — if the library’s budget remains as it is currently — included potentially closing the Ruth Holley and Rockrimmon library locations. This option had the least amount of average household impact and included adding a new location along the Powers corridor, according to the report.

The next step is for the Library’s consultant to complete and deliver their final report over the next few months. The Board will then assemble a committee to evaluate it and give their recommendations.

According to the spokesperson, the Library District is not currently considering closing any PPLD locations.
