(COLORADO SPRINGS) — A recent survey asked 3,000 families where they would most like to spend Memorial Day, and two locations in Colorado made the top 100, including Garden of the Gods Park right here in Southern Colorado.
Typically marking the kickoff of summer fun, Memorial Day activities are often enjoyed outdoors, making the stunning views and exciting trails found at Garden of the Gods Park perfect for a family trip. MaxTour, a Las Vegas-based tour company specializing in small group excursions, asked the surveyed families where they would most like to spend the holiday if distance were not a factor.
“Memorial Day is a special time for families to come together and honor the brave men and women who have served our country,” said Matthew Meier of MaxTour. “Our survey highlights some of the most cherished destinations where families can create lasting memories while paying tribute to our heroes. Whether it’s enjoying a scenic hike, a day at the beach, or participating in a solemn ceremony, these locations offer something meaningful for everyone.”
Here are the top 10 destinations:
First Landing State Park, Virginia Beach, Virginia
Cape Cod National Seashore, Cape Cod, Massachusetts
St. Simons Island Beaches, St. Simons Island, Georgia
Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Virginia
Clearwater Beach, Clearwater, Florida
Island Beach State Park, Seaside Park, New Jersey
San Antonio River Walk, San Antonio, Texas
Ocean City Boardwalk, Ocean City, New Jersey
Outer Banks Beaches, North Carolina
Liberty State Park, Jersey City, New Jersey
Colorado had two destinations in the top 100, with Garden of the Gods Park placing highest at #32. MaxTour said Garden of the Gods placed among the top destinations because of its stunning geological formations and panoramic views. Also among its draws were its walking and hiking trails, as well as the educational exhibits at the Visitor and Nature Center.
Coming in at #82, Red Rocks Amphitheater in Morrison placed as the only other Colorado destination on the list. MaxTour said Red Rocks is a wonderful Memorial Day destination, as families can hike the trails, which vary from easy to moderate, visit the Colorado Music Hall of Fame, and enjoy the natural red rock scenery that makes the park famous.
