Garden of the Gods Road intersection work continues

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — Median and intersection improvements on Garden of the Gods Road are set to continue as early as Monday, Nov. 10. This time, partial lane closures will take effect just east of I-25.

The work this time around will include the installation of new traffic lights at both the Northpark Drive and Mark Dabling Boulevard’s intersections with Garden of the Gods Road. The first phase will reduce usable eastbound lanes on West Garden of the Gods Rd. by at least one lane, then the same for westbound travel in phase two.

The City says that multiple lanes will remain open during rush hour traffic, but between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m., potentially only one lane will be open in each direction. Drivers should expect short delays and keep their eyes open for signs and changing traffic patterns.

Colorado Springs estimates the project to take roughly eight weeks, with work hours from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. occurring only on weekdays.

According to the City, these improvements to Garden of the Gods Rd. are necessary because of the number of crashes in the area from 2015 to 2020: 64 at the Northpark Dr. intersection, and 81 at the Mark Dabling Blvd. intersection.

The $1.96 million project is funded by the Colorado Department of Transportation, with a contribution from the Pikes Peak Rural Transportation Authority.
