Gateway residents urged to prepare for wildfire evacuation

DENVER (KDVR) — On Saturday, a pre-evacuation notice was issued to residents and businesses in parts of Gateway, Colorado, due to the Turner Gulch and Wright Draw Fires.

The pre-evacuation notice was issued by Mesa County Sheriff’s Office at 12 p.m. for people in the area of Highway 141 between Mile Markers 120 and 128 near Gateway.

In the notice, it said that people are asked to avoid “this area to allow fire crews to continue work containing the Turner Gulch and Wright Draw Fires.”

At 4:30 p.m., MCSO stated that those in the pre-evacuation zone near Gateway, with “large animals” in need of assistance for shelter are asked to call 970-788-0162.

The sheriff’s office also asked that the public go on the Mesa county website, for information on how to prepare for an evacuation.
