(COLORADO SPRINGS) — The weekend of Saturday, June 7, will feature several events in southern Colorado for those looking to get outdoors or be active.
Two series of events are taking place, the Colorado Senior Games and Pikes Peak APEX. Both will have events running from Friday, June 6, to Sunday, June 8, across El Paso County and surrounding areas.
Colorado Senior Games is a partnership between the YMCA of the Pikes Peak Region and the Colorado Springs Sports Corporation. Event organizers said the event hopes to create a vibrant, inclusive experience where seniors can stay active, compete, and connect through sport.
Events run from Friday to Sunday and cover sports including pickleball, table tennis, basketball, power walking, billiards, powerlifting, and badminton. Events will be held across Colorado Springs, and a full list of events and locations can be found online.
Happening on the slopes of Pikes Peak over the weekend will be the Pikes Peak APEX, a multi-day off-road cycling challenge. The event starts at 6 p.m. on Thursday, June 5, for riders to meet with organizers and go over courses and rules. The event will feature dirt roads, jeep trails, and alpine singletrack through Colorado’s backcountry, which organizers said is perfect for both professional and amateur riders.
The event will have a $12,500 pro purse for the 3-day MTB race with equal prizes for both men and women, plus prizes for amateur and gravel categories. More information can be found on Pikes Peak APEX’s website.
