(FALCON/PEYTON, Colo.) — On Saturday, Feb. 24, the Falcon and Peyton community can benefit from free tax filing services. Pikes Peak United Way will offer Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) to individuals and families who make less than $64,000 a year.
The event will take place at High Prairie Library at 7035 Meridian Road in Peyton, where volunteers will be available between noon and 3 p.m. to help qualifying individuals file their taxes for free. Appointments are required, and spots are limited. Those interested should book their session by calling 2-1-1 as soon as possible.
Refunds processed for free through VITA are often returned as soon as 10-14 days, rivaling the speed of the high-cost instant refund programs. This is crucial for those who depend on a quick refund turnaround. Cindy Aubrey, Pikes Peak United Way President and CEO said, “As family budgets stretch, and tax codes change, it’s important that we provide a service with knowledgeable and trained volunteers.”
Low-income earners who typically do not file their taxes, such as seniors and individuals with disabilities, should not automatically rule themselves out for this service. The Taxpayer Bill of Rights (TABOR) refund may be available for low-income residents.
Those living in Colorado Springs have access to regular clinics through the end of the tax season at six locations throughout the city.
Call 2-1-1 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, to make an appointment.
