(COLORADO SPRINGS) — Governor Jared Polis was at Audubon Elementary School in Colorado Springs on Monday, Feb. 10, highlighting the accomplishments of Colorado’s universal preschool program.
According to a joint press release from the Governor’s Office and the Colorado Department of Early Childhood (CDEC), in its first year, Colorado Universal Preschool served 43,479 children, reaching nearly 69% of the state’s eligible 4-year-olds—a milestone that the release said positions Colorado among the top states for preschool access nationwide.
On Monday, Gov. Polis checked in on the program that provides up to 15 hours of free preschool to children in their pre-kindergarten year.
Gov. Polis sat down to read for the kiddos, who helped read along. All children in Colorado are welcome to apply for the program, which Gov. Polis said saves Coloradans an average of $6,100 every year.
