CSPD: One taken to hospital after dog attack

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — One person was sent to the hospital after a dog owner and their neighbor were attacked by two pit bulls on Monday, Feb. 10, according to the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD).

CSPD reported that around 10:30 a.m. on Monday, officers responded to the 3700 block of East San Miguel Street, near Palmer Park Boulevard and North Academy Boulevard, and discovered that the dog owner had been dragged to the ground by their two pit bulls. Officers found the owner sitting on the ground restraining one of the dogs. The other dog was still extremely aggressive and not fully secured by her harness.

CSPD K9 officers arrived and were able to secure the dog with a “catch pole” to keep the dog from injuring the owner and other people in the area, according to CSPD. K9 officers used specialized tools and training to calm and restrain the aggressive dog. Both dogs were then secured by the Humane Society.

CSPD said the investigation revealed that a neighbor had tried to help the owner during the dogfight and got bitten, injuring their hand. One person was taken to the hospital to treat the injuries from the incident.
