(COLORADO SPRINGS) — The newest graduates of the University of Colorado Colorado Springs have received their degrees and are ready to spread their wings.
The college of Education and the College of Letters, Arts, and Sciences walked the stage of the Broadmoor World Arena on Friday morning, May 16, while graduates from all other colleges walked the stage later in the afternoon.
At the ceremony, family, friends, and loved ones gathered to cheer on their graduates, who have come so far. Many attribute their success to the support of their families, who have been there every step of the way.
“That makes me… the most emotional, I think, because it takes a community effort to do this, I definitely didn’t do it alone,” said masters graduate Shelby Zamora. “And I couldn’t have done that without them. I’m a first generation college student, and so this is not just my degree. It’s theirs too.”
More than 1,600 graduates received their degrees on Friday, with over 1,100 of them participating in the in-person ceremony. There were 24 PhDs, more than 350 master’s degrees, and more than 1,200 undergraduate degrees awarded.
