Hearing for Robert Dear pushed back to November

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — Robert Dear, who is accused of killing three people at a Planned Parenthood clinic in 2015 had a status conference hearing on Thursday, Aug. 15 after a judge ruled he could be forced to take medication.

State officials are waiting on the results of Dear’s federal case before they move forward with his state trial. A new hearing was scheduled for Nov. 14 at 8:30 a.m. for another status conference.

Dear has been awaiting trial since 2016 after being found incompetent to stand trial and having been committed to hospitalization until he is determined to understand the charges against him or assist in his defense.

A court ruled he could be forced to take medication but the case was on appeal until June 11, 2024, when an appeals court upheld the ruling to force Dear to take medication for his federal trial.

In June, the 4th Judicial District Attorney’s Office said it was following the federal case in the hopes of resuming the state case after the federal case concludes.
