(EL PASO COUNTY, Colo.) — Matthew Regnier, an alleged suspect who was arrested in connection with a deadly stabbing on Friday night, Oct. 31, was an art teacher at Monument Academy since August 2023. A statement from the school said that he was terminated effective Sunday, November 2.
According to the statement from Monument Academy, the school was informed of the allegations against Regnier late Saturday night. Monument Academy stated that the school will fully cooperate with law enforcement as needed in their ongoing investigation.
“This news is heartbreaking for our entire school community,” said Collin Vinchattle, Executive Director of Monument Academy. “The safety, well-being, and trust of our students, families, and staff are our top priorities. We are focused on providing care and support to those who may be affected.”
The school stated that counseling services are being made available to both students and staff as the community processes the difficult information, and said that “Monument Academy remains committed to maintaining a safe, supportive, and caring learning environment for every member of our Lynx family.”
