Help needed: Sending foster kids to camp

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — Kids Crossing is raising money to send foster kids to the YMCA’s Camp Shady Brook. Kids Crossing is a non-profit foster care organization based right here in Colorado Springs.

“A lot of them (foster kids) can’t be successful in the typical camp setting because of their emotional and behavioral needs,” said Aimee Davis, the Kids Crossing Development Director. “So we said, instead of them going to a normal camp and getting sent home, we wanted to create our own.”

They said it costs them $300 to send one kid to camp for the weekend, and they average around 50 attendees each year. The camp takes place at the beginning of April.

Some of the kids who attend this camp have never even used a sleeping bag before, so Kids Crossing provides one. They also give the kids a bag filled with some essentials like sunglasses, a reusable water bottle, and even a little flashlight. These are some of the items that a donation would help fund.
