(ALAMOSA COUNTY, Colo.) — Fremont Search and Rescue said it assisted in a rescue in Alamosa County on Monday, Aug. 12 to look for a hiker that was separated from their partner.
According to Fremont SAR, on Monday at around 10 p.m., it received a request for additional resources for a search in Alamosa County after crews had been searching since 3 p.m. that day for the hiker.
At 6 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 13, two K9 teams and additional resources were deployed and the hiker was found at around 11 a.m. The hiker apparently encountered a bear while returning to the trailhead, which forced her into the backcountry, where she became disoriented.
Fremont SAR said the hiker was able to build a shelter to survive the night.
SAR thanked Alamosa Volunteer Search and Rescue, the Colorado Search and Rescue Association, and other interagencies that responded to help.
