(COLORADO SPRINGS) — The Colorado Springs Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and its Education Foundation have announced the recipients of the 2025 Profiles in Valor Awards.
According to the Hispanic Chamber, the Valor Awards honor Hispanic and Latino veteran leaders whose courage, sacrifice, and service embody the highest ideals of valor.
“It’s important because many times, based on many events, we want to start to recognize our Americans of Latino or Hispanic heritage who have done great work while they were in the military or in our community,” said Joe Aldaz, President and CEO of the Colorado Springs Hispanic Chamber. “We hope that sometime, we are not having to do this type of dinner, because that recognition of our Latino [or Hispanic] veterans are recognized in other settings or events.”
The 2025 Honorees are:
Brigadier General (Ret.) Randy Cubero: Brig. Gen. Cubero’s career started as a cadet at the Air Force Academy and culminated in becoming the Academy’s first Hispanic Dean of Faculty.
Chief Adrian Vasquez: A U.S. Air Force veteran with nine and a half years of service. Chief Vasquez has devoted nearly three decades to the Colorado Springs Police Department. He was appointed Chief of Police in April 2022.
Albert Gonzales (Posthumous): A U.S. Air Force Veteran who dedicated his life to advancing Hispanic veterans’ rights through his leadership in the American GI Forum. Gonzales also served the community through decades of volunteer work at the Sacred Heart Parish Food Pantry.
Dr. Jennifer Hawkins: Dr. Hawkins is a 20-year veteran of the U.S. Army. She served as Officer-in-Charge at the DiRaimondo Soldier Centered Medical Home at Fort Carson. Following her military service, she founded On-Site Medical Care and helped during the COVID-19 pandemic.
