While America’s Mountain was coated in a fresh dusting of snow on Thursday morning, Sept. 18, according to FOX21 News Storm Team Chief Meteorologist Matt Meister, the forecast is shaping up nicely for this weekend.

“The computer model is picking up on some clouds building over some of the peaks… maybe there is a quick shower,” Matt said about this weekend’s forecast. “I still think, for the Pikes Peak Ascent and Marathon, the weather is about as good as it can get this time of year.”

The Pikes Peak Ascent will take place on Saturday, Sept. 20, followed by the Marathon on Sunday, Sept. 21.

The Ascent, which became its own event in the 1980s due to its popularity, takes runners up Barr Trail and climbs 13.3 miles to finish at the summit. The Pikes Peak Marathon, which began in 1956, “…is the oldest continually held marathon in the United States,” according to the race website. It takes runners from Manitou Springs to the summit of America’s Mountain.
