Officials recovered the skull and several other bones found in the immediate area. Grand County Search and Rescue conducted a wider search for additional remains but did not locate any, according to CBI.

CBI said that evidence at the scene led investigators to believe that the remains had been there for a “significant period, and possibly many years.”

No identifying information or clothing was found.

The remains will be transferred to a forensic anthropologist to determine the sex, race and general age of the person who died, as well as some general information about how long the person had been deceased.
