I-25 fatal crash victim identified as 81-year-old

(MONUMENT, Colo.) — The El Paso County Coroner’s Office has identified the victim of the two-vehicle crash that led to a secondary fatal crash on Wednesday, Nov. 27.

Colorado State Patrol (CSP) Troopers responded to a two-vehicle crash involving a Jeep and a Subaru Outback on northbound I-25 on Wednesday morning at around 10:30 a.m. The drivers then moved their vehicles to the left shoulder where they got outside their vehicles to exchange information.

A pickup truck then entered the scene at a high rate of speed and hit the cars on the shoulder, causing the Subaru to hit one of the drivers who landed in the southbound lanes of I-25 and was run over by traffic. The victim died on scene and was identified by the Coroner’s Office as 81-year-old James Spencer on Monday, Dec. 2.

I-25 was closed for several hours as emergency workers cleared the scene.

At the moment, there have been no charges filed, however, CSP told FOX21 the investigation is still ongoing.
