Immediate evacuations requested in Louviers due to multiple fires

DENVER (KDVR) — Crews are responding to multiple fires in Douglas County near the town of Louviers Sunday afternoon, and officials are requesting immediate evacuations in the town and areas west of Waterton Road.

South Metro Fire Rescue at 2:13 p.m. Sunday said they were responding to “multiple vegetation fires” near 9844 Titan Court, then said it was “upgraded to an Urban Interface fire with multiple fires all (sic) the train tracks and spreading in open space with at least one structure threatened.”

The fire has since been upgraded to a second-alarm wildland fire, and South Metro Fire Rescue at 3:02 p.m. said they were requesting immediate evacuation for the town of Louviers. A Douglas County Sheriff’s Office helicopter and West Metro Frie are also assisting in the fire.

South Metro at 3:46 p.m. said areas west of Waterton Road are also included in the evacuations.

Officials said no structures have been lost, but crews are still battling multiple fires on the north end of the town of Louviers.

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office at 3:58 p.m. said the Douglas County Fairgrounds are open to evacuees.

Chatfield State Park also said several areas of the park were closed and evacuated, including the Plum Creek Nature, Plum Creek Picnic, and Roxborough Cove parking areas.

Colorado Parks and Wildlife at 3:41 p.m. said a 20-acre fire has been put out and first responders are dealing with hot spots. The Plum Creek Nature is still closed, but the Plum Creek Picnic and Roxborough Cove areas are back open.
