(PUEBLO, Colo.) — Individuals gathered for a good cause on Saturday, Feb. 8, and some even dared to go through the coolest event to support Special Olympics Colorado.
People in Pueblo were ‘freezin’ for a reason’ on Saturday for the annual Pueblo Polar Plunge, where people go to the extreme to support Special Olympics. Individuals dived into the cool 32-degree water in Lake Pueblo State Park to raise money for the Olympics.
“I personally have a reason. My baby sister is a Special Olympics athlete. She’s down in Texas,” said Shawntel Hilton, a Polar Plunge participant. “She’s been doing it for years. She is a bowler. And at one point she did a little bit of running. And what better reason to not do the point? I mean, who else wouldn’t freeze for a reason to see athletes like that be able to achieve their goals in their dreams? And I’m just a glutton for punishment.”
All funds raised during the event by Plungers help provide year-round training and services to more than 23,000 Special Olympics athletes across the state. So far, more than $21,000 have been raised.
