(COLORADO SPRINGS) — The Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) said K9 Roam is scheduled to be discharged on Saturday, Oct. 18, and the community is invited to show their support as Roam makes his way home.
According to CSPD, after Roam is released, he and his handler will be escorted from the veterinary hospital by a small contingent of uniformed CSPD personnel in marked police vehicles. The route will pass by Roam’s assigned division, the Specialized Enforcement Division, on Fountain Boulevard just east of South Academy Boulevard.
The community is invited to line the route along Fountain Blvd. from Academy Park Loop to Powers Boulevard, starting at 11 a.m. on Saturday, to show their support for Roam. Roam and his handler are expected to pass by the area around 11:15 a.m. CSPD wants to remind community members who participate not to park on Fountain Boulevard or Academy Boulevard, but to find parking elsewhere and stand on the sidewalk.
On Wednesday, Oct. 15, Roam was gravely injured while attempting to take a suspect, later identified as active duty Sergeant First Class Anthony Bryant, into custody. Roam suffered several injuries, needing several hours of surgery, including one to amputate his left hind leg.
