La Junta hospital announces it plans job cuts

(LA JUNTA, Colo.) — Arkansas Valley Regional Medical Center (AVRMC) in La Junta announced on Wednesday, June 25, that due to various factors, a Reduction in Force is expected.

According to the hospital, in response to changes in healthcare, including recent regulatory and reimbursement changes, job cuts are part of a broader strategic effort to guide the long-term financial stability of the organization.

AVRMC said the decision came after an analysis of the medical center’s position and ability to navigate cost increases, inflationary pressures, and declining reimbursement rates.

“We explored every available option before determining that a reduction in workforce was necessary. Our goal is to preserve access to care for our community and protect the long-term health of the hospital,” said Dale Leighty, AVRMC Board Chairman.

Details on what jobs will be impacted were not shared, but AVRMC said the changes in staffing are not expected to have an impact on patient care.
