Local Filmmakers react to Sundance moving to Colorado

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — The Sundance Film Festival is moving from Utah to Boulder, Colorado, in 2027.

Local filmmakers are excited for the new opportunities the large-scale festival scene will bring to Colorado.

“Sundance coming to Colorado is beyond exciting.” Local Filmmaker Maggie Hartmans said, “I think it’s just such a great opportunity to go to be right where the action is. To meet other filmmakers now that prominent filmmakers are coming here.”

However, most filmmakers’ bread and butter are the local film festivals that have been here for years… like The Rocky Mountain Women’s Film Festival, which has been putting women behind the lens into focus for 30 years.

The directors of the local film festivals are on board with this being a positive move for Colorado

The Director of the Rocky Mountain Women’s Film Festival, Nicole Nicoletta, commented. “A rising tide lifts all boats, and I really believe that that’s true. I think that the energy, the excitement, the content, the films, the programming that Sundance is going to bring into Boulder can only be good for everybody.”
