(COLORADO SPRINGS) — Protesters gathered outside the El Paso County Democratic Party office on Jan. 19. They stacked bundles of cloth made to look like body bags outside the door. Each bag, protesters said, represented 3,000 lives lost in Gaza.
In a statement Jan. 19, the Colorado Springs People’s Coalition (CSPC) declared their intention to gather outside of the El Paso County Democratic Party office. The CSPC is unhappy with how President Joe Biden is handling the situation in Palestine, and they are demanding a stronger stand from the Democratic Party, both locally and nationally.
“It is unconscionable that Biden and his allies are willing to go to war to protect corporate interests instead of doing everything in their power to end the heinous assault against Palestine,” the CSPC’s statement said. “The value of a human life will always be worth more than all the commercial ships in the world.”
El Paso County Democratic Party officials responded to FOX21’s inquiries about the protest, recognizing the First Amendment rights of the protesters, affirming their free speech and the importance of peaceful assembly. Their statement expressed deep concern and empathy for the Israel-Palestine situation, while also confirming their wholehearted support of President Biden and his leadership.
“We remain dedicated to engaging in constructive dialogue with our community members and addressing their concerns,” said Rob Rogers, First Vice Chair, El Paso County Democrats. “Our commitment to democratic ideals is unwavering, and we continue to strive for policies that reflect the values of justice and peace both domestically and internationally.”
