Local restaurant prepares for upcoming roadwork project

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — The City of Colorado Springs is preparing for a major roadwork project beginning in May, and a local restaurant is preparing for its impact on nearby businesses.

Planned to start in the summer of 2025, the Highway 24/Peterson Road Interchange Project will reconstruct the interchange into a roundabout in an effort to provide safer, more secure, and more efficient travel to the Peterson Space Force Base North Gate.

The construction is expected to last into 2027, and nearby Sandy’s Restaurant said they have been tracking the construction closely.

“Any type of construction can cause major changes to business. The local fire chief has been keeping us in the loop throughout the process, and although there is going to be big growing pains, we think it’s positive in the long term,” wrote Sandys Restaurant.

Sandy’s Restaurant said that while it is going to be a challenge for their patrons to get to them, they are hopeful that it will work out in the end, as adding many homes close to the restaurant and updating the road will be very beneficial in the long run.
