DENVER (KDVR) — The Powerball jackpot jumped to $1.7 billion on Wednesday after still no winner. However, some Coloradans already scored big after winning millions from Powerball tickets.
Since May 31, there have been 41 drawings without a jackpot win, raising the prize higher and higher after each drawing. The jackpot now sits at $1.7 billion after no jackpot win on Wednesday, but there are people nationwide — including in Colorado — still getting cash outs.
The goal of Powerball is to match the balls chosen in a drawing. Players choose five numbers from 69 numbers and one from 26 for the Powerball. Those who match the five white balls and the Powerball win the jackpot, but those who just match all five white balls still get a hefty prize.
On Wednesday, Powerball said $2 million winners were drawn in four states, and $1 million winners that matched all five white balls were drawn in Colorado, California, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, Ohio and Pennsylvania.
The $1 million ticket was purchased at a Safeway store in Peyton, while two tickets each worth $50,000 were bought at a King Soopers in Castle Rock and Harts Gas and Food in Estes Park.
These winners aren’t the only ones recently with a lucky Powerball ticket.
The Colorado Lottery said Jennifer B. recently won $2 million after buying a Powerball ticket at a King Soopers in Parker. Meanwhile, on Monday, three people who purchased tickets in Colorado Springs, Englewood and Steamboat Springs won between $50,000 and $150,000 by adding Powerplay, a multiplier that costs an extra $1.
While there’s a one in 292.2 million odds of winning the Powerball jackpot, according to the Colorado Lottery, the odds of winning a prize in Powerball are one in 24.9.
