(MANITOU SPRINGS, Colo.) — The City of Manitou Springs has announced that Phase Four of the Creek Walk Trail Project will start Friday, Sept. 5. This means daily work will affect traffic on Manitou Avenue.

Specifically, westbound traffic on Manitou Ave. between Wayfair Avenue and Old Mans Trail will shift into the center of the road to make room for the work area. An official notice from the City estimates that the construction efforts should take four to six weeks.
Work crews will be on Manitou Ave. from 6:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. The improvements will include reconstruction of sidewalks, curbs, and gutters, new streetlights, new roadside irrigation, resurfaced pavement, new pavement markings, and more trail signage.
24-hour traffic control will be present in the area to ensure worker safety and ease the traffic shift.
Manitou Springs advises community members and visitors who use this area to expect sidewalk closures, signed detours, parking restrictions, lane shifts, an impact on traffic, and, of course, construction crews and equipment operating throughout the project corridor.
“Phase 4 is a critical component of the long-term Creek Walk Master Plan, providing a safe, ADA-accessible pedestrian corridor along Fountain Creek and strengthening connectivity through town. Once completed, the trail will enhance mobility between neighborhoods, parks, historic landmarks, and downtown businesses,” according to an announcement from the City.
This phase of the Creek Walk Trail Project is funded by a $250,000 Revitalizing Main Streets Grant, given to the City by the Colorado Department of Transportation. For more information, call the City of Manitou Springs Public Services Department at (719) 685-2573.
