(SECURITY-WIDEFIELD, Colo.) — A man has been arrested after deputies allegedly had to break in a bathroom door to stop the suspect attacking a victim in Security-Widefield over the weekend.
According to the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office (EPSO), around 2:20 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 1, dispatchers received a 911 call from a home in the 500 block of Norman Drive, near Widefield High School. EPSO said during the call, a person could be heard screaming for help as a “violent disturbance” occurred in the background.
EPSO said deputies responded immediately, and when they arrived, a person opened the front door and told deputies the suspect was “beating” the victim in a bathroom. Deputies entered the home and had to force their way into a room with a locked door, where they found an adult man, identified as 42-year-old Sean Tierney, and a victim with visible head injuries.
Tierney was removed from the room, and as deputies were trying to detain him, EPSO said Tierney became “combative and resisted arrest.” After a brief struggle, EPSO said Tierney was taken into custody.
The victim suffered “significant injuries” to their head and upper body, EPSO said. Medical personnel with the Security Fire Department responded and the victim was taken to the hospital. Tierney was taken to the El Paso County Jail and was booked on multiple charges:
Attempted second degree murder
Second degree assault
Domestic violence
Resisting arrest
He is being held on $100,000 bond.
“This incident was a cruel and senseless act of domestic violence,” said El Paso County Sheriff Joseph Roybal. “I am grateful for the swift and courageous response of our deputies who acted decisively to stop the assault and ensure the victim received immediate medical care. Domestic violence has no place in our community, and we will continue to pursue justice for victims and hold offenders accountable.”
