Man dies after being hit by train south of downtown

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — The Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) reported that one person died after being hit by a train near East Mill Street and South Nevada Avenue, south of downtown, on Sunday, May 11.

According to CSPD, around 11:45 a.m., officers responded to a call about a train vs. pedestrian accident, in which they learned that the train had been moving northbound when an unidentified man appeared to intentionally step into the path of the oncoming train.

CSPD reported that when officers arrived, they found the man dead at the scene. The El Paso County Coroner’s Office was notified and responded. CSPD said traffic on South Royer Street and East Las Vegas may be impacted for several hours.
