Monsoon: Best stretch on the way

While not as strong or long lasting as the Indian monsoon which is the world’s most significant seasonal wind shift, the North American monsoon, sometimes called the southwest monsoon, is likely going to bring its most active stretch of the summer for us in southern Colorado over the next week and a half or so.

Storms will be around each afternoon and evening. While you won’t likely get storms each day, here’s hoping that you get hit a few times and you get some bursts of rain. Unsurprisingly, different computer models put the stronger updrafts in different locations each day, but consecutive days of heavy rain, especially for flood prone areas may produce some localized flash flooding.

Thunderstorms do bring a double-edged sword though as the lightning brings a risk of wildfires. There has been an increase in abnormally dry conditions in parts of southern Colorado over the last couple of months.
