CSPD: Man threatens to shoot next person he sees

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — The Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) responded to a call of shots fired in Southeast Colorado Springs during the early morning hours of Sunday, August 4, and discovered a man who allegedly made threats to the people in the neighborhood.

The incident occurred at a townhome in the 3500 block of Lenoso Terrace, near Academy and Hancock, according to CSPD. When officers arrived around 3 a.m., they discovered that the resident, a 25-year-old man named Michael Overbay, had threatened to shoot the next person he saw and fired two rounds into the air from a shotgun while standing in the parking lot. He then went back into his home.

CSPD reported that officers attempted to make contact with the suspect, but he was uncooperative and refused to communicate despite several attempts. Officers set up containment and the sergeant requested assistance from the Tactical Enforcement Unit (TEU), the K9 Unit, the Explosive Unit, and the Unmanned Aerial Systems Unit.

While units were on the scene, Overbay was seen looking over the back fence, according to CSPD. The TEU was able to establish communication with the suspect and he eventually surrendered peacefully.

CSPD said that officers then executed a search warrant for the townhome, where they recovered a long gun with ammunition. The suspect was charged with Felony Menacing, Prohibited Use of a Firearm, Violation of a Protection Order, and Reckless Endangerment. He was transported to the Criminal Justice Center for processing. There were no injuries to citizens, officers, or the suspect.
