Multiple people shot in Manhattan skyscraper, active shooter investigation ongoing: sources

MANHATTAN, N.Y. (WPIX) – Law enforcement is responding to reports of an active shooter at a skyscraper in Midtown Manhattan Monday evening after multiple people were shot, sources told Nexstar’s WPIX.

At least two people, including a New York City police officer, were shot in the lobby of Blackstone, the building that houses some of the country’s top financial firms and the National Football League, a person familiar with the matter told The Associated Press.

The building was being evacuated as of 7 p.m.

At 7:13 p.m., Mayor Adams confirmed on X that an active shooter investigation was taking place in Midtown.

NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch confirmed on X that the shooter had been neutralized: “At this time, the scene has been contained and the lone shooter has been neutralized.”

The NYPD is urging pedestrians to avoid the area around East 52nd Street between Park Avenue and Lexington Avenue.

An individual was taken to a local hospital in cardiac arrest, according to an EMS source.
