New food and hidden gems at the Colorado State Fair

(PUEBLO, Colo.) — There’s plenty of food to try at the Colorado State Fair, and as Labor Day Weekend gets underway, Loving Living Local’s Kenny Johnson got to preview the tasty treats.

First up, Santa Lucia, a Greek grill, which has been grilling up some amazing Greek staples at the fair. These tasty bites have fairgoers hooked!

Kenny recommends tying the chicken Milano and the falafel on a stick. The chicken Milano is a family recipe made of chicken breast marinated in Greek wine and fresh garlic. They put that in a naan bread with tzatziki sauce and some vegetables.

The falafel on a stick is made of deep-fried balls of chickpeas with herbs and spices. Plus, you get the delicious tzatziki sauce to dip them in.

The Watering Hole Cafe is a hidden gem at the fair. Located in the horseman’s arena, the Watering Hole is a great spot to take a break in the shade. They offer the typical hamburgers, chicken tenders, and pulled pork, but also some really unique foods to try.

Make sure to check out their stand in the morning for some breakfast food like their cinnamon rolls and their breakfast burritos. Inside their breakfast burritos, you can find eggs, either bacon or sausage, French fries, and the iconic green chili.

You also can’t forget about The Watering Hole’s slopper. A slopper is an open-faced hamburger smothered in green chili and shredded cheese with a side of French fries.

When you need to cool down, try Shiver & Shake. This vendor is completely new to the Colorado State Fair, and they can’t wait to help cool you off with some shaved ice and ice cream.

If you visit Shiver & Shake, make sure you try the Bomb Pop Ice and the Sour Candy Man. Both of these are shaved ice in a cup with tasty flavors.

The Bomb Pop mixes blue raspberry and cherry flavoring, topped with whipped cream and garnished with a bomb pop popsicle.

The Sour Candy Man mixes together blue raspberry, cherry, and lemon flavorings. It’s then topped with sour patch candy on top, a very popular treat among the kids.

Andrew Diaz owns Shiver & Shake and said that he’s very thankful to get his local Pueblo business into the fair this year.

Make sure you check out these vendors along with the rest of the different foods scattered across the grounds.
