(COLORADO SPRINGS) — The Colorado Springs Fire Department (CSFD) said a new truck is now in service to help with the “heightened number of calls” on the north side of Colorado Springs.
The fire department said the new truck will help cover Station 24’s district while the station is currently under construction off Interquest Parkway and New Life Drive.
According to CSFD, the so-called ‘Brush 24’ is a smaller truck typically used for wildland and brush fires and is staffed with a paramedic and lieutenant. Brush 24 will run out of the Pikes Peak State College – Rampart Range Campus during the day and at Station 22, which is in the Northgate area, at night.
In our previous coverage, CSFD stated that plans for the new station began in 2021 when construction increased in the area and the City recognized the need to build another station.
“There is this vacuum between Station 19 [Briargate area] and Station 22, and that’s Station 24. This station allows us to ensure that we’re able to respond in a timely fashion when someone calls 911,” said Mayor Yemi Mobolade during a groundbreaking ceremony held for Station 24 last May.
According to CSFD, while the new station is still under construction, Brush 24 will respond to medical calls, structure and wildland fires, car crashes, and other calls for service.
“Your safety is of utmost importance to us, which is why this apparatus was important to add until our station is finished. Your level of care will be the same, but the apparatus responding will look a little different!”
When Station 24 opens, it will put CSFD closer to its goal of having all of its stations within a three-mile or so radius. “And so our goal is to get to every call in eight minutes or less,” Fire Chief Randy Royal of CSFD said previously.
Station 24 is slated to open in March.
