(COLORADO SPRINGS) — The Fountain Creek Watershed District is hosting its next “Liquid Lecture Series” on Thursday, March 21 at Storybook Brewing in Colorado Springs from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.
This month’s topic is “Wacky Watershed Weather,” and will feature FOX21 Storm Team Chief Meteorologist Matt Meister who will share his expertise about the weather in the Fountain Creek Watershed from Palmer Park down to Pueblo.
Alli Schuch, Executive Director of the Fountain Creek Watershed District, said each month the district holds a free event at a different brewery and invites a local expert to discuss a different watershed health topic to educate the community in a fun and casual way.
Participants also get a $1 off beer during the events. “We have the only Brewshed Alliance in the whole state of Colorado,” Schuch said. “25 breweries have come together to support and protect our watershed health because it’s something they need for their product.”
Schuch said the Fountain Creek Watershed is one of the most erratic watersheds in the country by virtue of our elevation. “It will hail in one part of town and nothing will be happening in another, so we’ve got a lot of wacky weather,” Schuch said.
The Fountain Creek Watershed District is also holding a Rain Barrel Sale through April 1.
As of 2016, it is now legal in Colorado to own two, 55-gallon rain barrels. “The last time we did one of these sales in our region was six or seven years ago and you can see how well this has stood up to time,” Schuch said.
