North Cheyenne Cañon Park: ‘Please, please please, stop using confetti’

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — North Cheyenne Cañon Park is asking visitors to refrain from throwing a very specific item onto the ground at the park.

On Tuesday, Aug. 5, the park called against using confetti for pictures in North Cheyenne Cañon Park, as it can be detrimental to the ecosystem.

“As fun and pretty as some think it is, it is trash and ends up in the creeks and does harm to the birds and wildlife that try to eat it,” the park wrote via social media. The park added that even “biodegradable” confetti can take a significant amount of time to break down and cause damage.

“Someone ends up having to clean it up, and that is a drain on park resources,” North Cheyenne Cañon Park wrote.

The park follows the ‘Leave No Trace’ principles, which help keep trails and open spaces healthy and sustainable. Visitors are asked to always dispose of waste properly and respect wildlife.
