Cheyenne Mountain Run celebrates 10 years of trail races

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — The Cheyenne Mountain Run is celebrating a decade of hitting the trails at Cheyenne Mountain State Park. Race Director Pat Cooper and Angel Brock, a legacy runner, joined FOX21 Morning News on Tuesday, Aug. 5, to talk about the upcoming 10th anniversary run on Saturday, Aug. 16.

The run features three trail races: a 25K to the top of Cheyenne Mountain for the more advanced trail runners, a 10K for experienced runners, and a 5K trail run/walk for all levels of runners to enjoy. “What is very unique about our 25K is that it is the only trail run to the top of Cheyenne Mountain,” said Cooper. “So we’ll have an elevation gain of approximately 3,400 feet.”

Brock has run the Cheyenne Mountain Run every year since it was created in 2015. She said the 25K is a technical trail race. “I would compare it to a shorter version of the Pikes Peak Marathon.” The 25K option is also a qualifying race for the 2026 Pikes Peak Ascent.

To celebrate ten years of the Cheyenne Mountain Run, for the first time ever, there will be cash prizes awarded to the top three overall finishers in each of the trail runs.

Profits from the Cheyenne Mountain Run will be used to fund trail projects and other park programs at Cheyenne Mountain State Park.
