(COLORADO SPRINGS) — The City of Colorado Springs Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Services (PRCS) celebrated the ribbon cutting of the completion of Oak Meadows Park in southwest Colorado Springs.
The renovated playground — located at 4690 Farthing Drive — now provides new, accessible play equipment with ADA-compliant parking and access to both the playground and Fire Station 16’s Community Room.
“Playgrounds are often the first place that children have a joyful experience outdoors and unstructured play,” said Susan Davies, executive director of Trails and Open Space Coalition. “They get away from their computers and their phones. The beautiful things that happen here, and their lifelong activities and habits that occur that improve their physical and mental health, you can’t put a value on that.”
PRCS designed the space so it could be inclusive to all members of the community.
The park has artificial turf and 3,000 square feet of sidewalk. The renovations were made possible through donations from neighbors in the Oak Meadows Community and the Colorado Springs Trails Open Space and Parks (TOPS) sales tax program.
