FFR reports that just after 11:30 p.m. on Oct. 1, Teller County 911 operators received calls about a fire at the Thunderbird Inn, located at 17801 County Road 1 in Florissant. In response, Teller County 911 sent out a first alarm structure fire to several fire districts and a nearby ambulance service. According to FFR, Teller County Sheriff deputies arrived at the Inn within five minutes and confirmed the fire.

After this, volunteer firefighters with FFR arrived, and crews had to force their way in through multiple doors due to the age and weighty construction of the building. From here, they deployed fire cans and began a rapid search for anyone inside the burning building.

While crews were searching, others activated hose lines, and a full fire attack was made.

According to FFR, the majority of the fire was in the front bar area of the Thunderbird Inn, spreading along the wooden floors and walls, and also up around the stove pipe, ceiling, and attic areas.

As more firefighters arrived on the scene, crews conducted a search and also began ventilation, while securing the utility lines to the building. The over 30 first responders had the fire under control within 15 minutes and out after 45, with no injuries or victims to be found.

FFR’s report finds the fire to not be suspicious and started near the fireplace. As of Thursday, Oct. 2, the incident has been turned over to the property owner.
