Palmer Lake Special Recall Election looks to oust two Board of Trustee members

(PALMER LAKE, Colo.) — The preliminary results are in from the Town of Palmer Lake Recall Special Election held on Tuesday, Sept. 9, and it appears that two Board members will be recalled from their positions.

The Town Board of Trustees scheduled this election on June 30. The recall was for current Trustees Shana Ball and Kevin Dreher, but the special election also introduced an ordinance that would require voter approval for future annexations.

All three of these ticket items come in the wake of the proposed Buc-ee’s location just two miles from Palmer Lake, which has had the town residents and officials debating ever since the news broke. Specifically, many of the meetings and hearings regarding the annexation have argued about the voting public not being informed of the various approvals and funding options between Buc-ee’s and Palmer Lake officials.

The preliminary results of the special election are for the recall across the board. The Recall of Trustee Shana Ball came in at 657 votes for yes, and 467 no, with a similar outcome for Trustee Kevin Dreher at 631 to 489. The Ballot Initiative also passed at 765 to 375.

The Town of Palmer Lake’s official website states that the election judges met at 11:00 a.m. on Sept. 10 to complete a recall tally and confirm the results.
