Parker the Snow Dog, Georgetown’s honorary mayor, dies in crash

DENVER (KDVR) — Parker the Snow Dog, the beloved honorary mayor of Georgetown, died in a car crash, according to his owner.

Parker’s owner, Dustin Schaefer, confirmed to FOX31 that the Bernese mountain dog died in a crash on Christmas Eve in 2024. The duo were on an ice fishing trip, Schaefer said.

Parker the Snow Dog was loved by thousands, and as the town of Georgetown simply put it, he was “as Colorado as it gets.”

Parker was sworn in as the honorary mayor of Georgetown in 2020 and served as the official mascot for Loveland Ski Area since 2017. During his tenure as mayor, the town of Georgetown said Parker’s role was to “bring hugs, love and cookies to the people he calls neighbors and friends in his hometown.”

He even made national headlines following his swearing-in ceremony.

Parker was also a philanthropist. He spent several birthdays hosting fundraisers and raising money to send children with disabilities to Rocky Mountain Village Easterseals summer camp.

In 2023, FOX31 reported that Parker raised $20,000 for the camp in what was known as “Parker Palooza.” During his birthday party, Parker helped raise enough money so 10 kids could attend the Easterseals’ summer camp in 2024.

The pup was also a staple in the Front Range community. He loved to watch his Denver Broncos play and was a big fan of former linebacker Von Miller, according to the town of Georgetown. He was often spotted at Rockies and Nuggets games as well.
